The Zillertal Arena is the largest skiing area in Zillertal, stretching from Zell in the Zillertal valley, over Gerlos, to Wald-Königsleiten and Krimml-Hochkrimml. 143 kilometres of piste, 51 ski lifts. Whether skier or snowboarder, beginner or professional - there's something for everyone here. You can easily get back down to the valley on newly created ski trails and ski runs. And of course, after a great day's skiing or snowboarding the (in)famous Gerlos après-ski is not to be missed!
The Zillertal Arena is the largest skiing area in Zillertal, popular because of its one-hundred-percent snow guarantee as well as 147 kilometres of slopes and 52 lifts. Experience skiing at an altitude of 2,500 metres, with magnificent panoramic views and perfectly groomed slopes! You can expect pleasant carving, long downhill runs and also challenging routes for professionals. Snow- and action-parks are just as much an attraction in the Zillertal Arena as the special offers for families.
The ultimate ticket for skiing fun in Zillertal is the Superskipass. Valid from December to April on all of the 542 prepared slopes and 180 lifts in the greater Hochzillertal-Hochfügen-Spieljoch skiing area; in the Zillertal Arena, for the lifts operated by Mayrhofner Bergbahen as well as the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000. It is also valid on the Hintertux Glacier at the end of the Tux valley.
Snowtubing is fantastic fun. In Gerlosstein there is a dedicated area for it. Children from the age of 8 can enjoy winter fun alone on rubber tyres, on prepared runs of 200 metres in length! Tobogganing fun for experts and children is provided by six, partly illuminated toboggan runs in Zell, Gerlos, Wald-Königsleiten and Krimml-Hochkrimml. You can whizz through the snowy winter landscape on toboggans! For night owls, a 7-kilometre natural toboggan run in Zell is available in the evening.
For those looking for peace and quiet and wanting to find themselves, romantic winter hiking trails over peaks and through forests offer the perfect conditions for this. Enjoy the glistening white mountain landscape and switch off from everyday life on a long walk. There are various hiking tracks, such as the Krauspromenade (Rohrberg) that takes you along a stream and through winter forest. We will be pleased to provide tips and recommendations!
Away from the fast-paced ski slopes, you can set your own pace cross-country skiing in the Zillertal Arena and enjoy the wonderful natural landscape on cross-country skis! Whether skating or classic, everyone will find just the right trail. The high cross-country trail in Hochkrimml is something special. Here you can enjoy the fantastically beautiful natural landscape at an altitude of 1,640 m. In the Schönachtal valley near Gerlos, you can even experience the winter landscape on floodlit trails at night.
The artificial ice rink in Zell offers ice-skating fans endless fun on an 1,800 m² rink. Glide over the ice to music and enjoy the experience of feeling almost weightless. Ice hockey and curling fans will also get their money's worth. Skate and curling rentals are available. There is another artificial ice rink in Kaltenbach, as well as several natural ice rinks in the region.
Nothing is more romantic in winter than a ride by horse-drawn sleigh through the snow-covered mountain landscape. Enjoy this experience with your loved one(s)! Snuggled up in warm blankets, you travel through forests, over Alpine pastures and through idyllic villages to the sound of horse bells. Hotels and farms in Gerlos, Schwendau, Aschau and other places offer horse-drawn carriage rides. We will be pleased to provide more information!
The Leisure Park in Zell am Ziller was redesigned in 2018 and offers attractions for young and old, both in summer and winter! A highlight in winter is the artificial ice and curling rink. Here you can skate to your heart's content to lively music or enjoy curling. Skates and curling stones are available for hire. A modern tennis hall and bowling alley, as well as the "Café im Park" restaurant are available for further sports activities and refreshments.
The Arena Coaster toboggan run is also a popular attraction in winter for people of all ages! The speedy descent is over one kilometre in length. The route takes you over waves, steep curves and jumps. Two loops provide additional thrills. The Arena Coaster is the first Alpine roller coaster in Zillertal - children from the age of 10 can ride alone.
